COMMON QUESTIONS
How often should I water?
The right watering schedule depends on your lawn, plants, soil type, sun exposure, and the weather. As a general rule, it’s better to water deeply and less often than to water lightly every day. Deep watering encourages stronger, deeper root systems that are more resilient during Minnesota’s hot summers.
If we installed your landscape, be sure to follow the specific care guide for your project. Newly installed sod, trees, shrubs, and perennials all have different watering requirements.
Should I fertilize immediately after installation?
Not always. Fertilizing too soon can actually stress new plants or sod. The proper timing depends on what was installed and the time of year.
For newly installed sod, wait until the lawn has become established before applying fertilizer unless otherwise recommended. Newly planted trees and shrubs generally benefit more from consistent watering than immediate fertilization.

Do I need to pull weeds even with landscape fabric?
Yes. Landscape fabric is designed to reduce weeds by blocking those that grow up from the soil below, but it can’t prevent every weed. Wind-blown seeds can still settle on top of rock or mulch and germinate.
Regularly removing small weeds before they become established will keep your landscape looking its best and make maintenance much easier.
